Mr. John Martin Herbert, age 84, of Hoschton, GA, died Saturday December 5, 2009 at his residence.                                                                                                                                          

Mr. Herbert was born in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin. He had lived in Granville, Ohio for many years and had lived in Dahlonega, GA since 1982. Mr. Herbert was a member of the Dahlonega Historical Society and was awarded the Madeleine K. Anthony Award. He was active in gold mining, was a WWII Army veteran, and was of the Catholic faith.                                                

He was the son of the late Alfred Herbert and Roslla Schmitz Herbert.                                                 

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Herbert, Hoschton, GA; daughter, Rita Schubart, Zanesville, Ohio; son, Jim Herbert, Idaho; step-daughter, Debbie Jett, Flowery Branch, GA; stepson, Gary Appling, Dacula, GA; brother, Steve Herbert, Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Amy Schubart Dull, Michael Schubart, Danielle Herbert, John Herbert, Benjamin Herbert, Sarah Herbert and Zachery Herbert; step-grandchildren, Shannon Jett, Michael Jett, Shawn Appling, and Lauren Appling.                                                                                                                                                        

Memorial Services for Mr. Herbert are scheduled for 1:00 PM Saturday December 12, 2009 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega. Rev. Matland LaForce will officiate.                                                                                         

 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from Noon until 1:00 PM.                              

Flowers are optional or contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
