Mrs. Shirley Lawrance Porter, age 79, of School Street, Jackson, Georgia passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Sylvan Grove Hospital. Mrs. Porter was born February 1, 1930 in Lumpkin County, Georgia daughter of the late Yancy and Maggie Dale Lawrance. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.

Mrs. Shirley Porter is survived by her husband, John Neil Porter; son, Kenneth Porter, both of Jackson; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Jimmy Davis, of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Tony Allen Porter, Kimberly Dawn Porter, Charles Bradley Duff, Crystal Porter, John Michael Porter; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Dixie and Bobby McMahan, of Gainesville, Vera Lawrance and Betty Jean Roper, both of Dawsonville; one brother, Marvin D. Lawrance, of Taiwan. She was predeceased by two sons, Michael Tyrone Porter and John Clayton Porter.

Funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Lawrance Porter will be conducted at eleven AM Saturday, January 2, 2010 in the chapel of Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega. Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate with burial in the Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may visit the family in Jackson at the Sherell, Wilson, Mangham Funeral Home from 9 A.M. until 2 P.M. Friday. Mrs. Porter will then be carried to the Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega where the family will receive friends from 6 PM until 9 PM.

Sherrell, Wilson, Mangham Funeral Home and Banister Funeral Home are in charge of the arrangements.
