Mr. Virgeous C. “Byrd” Caldwell, age 78, of Dahlonega, GA died Saturday Nov. 28, 2009.

 

Mr. Caldwell was born in Jackson County, GA June 19, 1931 and had lived in Lumpkin County most of his life. He was retired from General Motors with 31.2 years of service. He was a member of Yahoola Baptist Church in Lumpkin County and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

 

Mr. Caldwell was the son of the late John Cassidy Caldwell Sr. and Ella Stancil Caldwell and was also preceded in death by brothers, Junior Caldwell, Joe Caldwell, Ernest Caldwell, and Wilson Caldwell; and a sister, Kathleen Doescher. 

 

He is survived by his daughter, Gina Caldwell, Dahlonega, GA; son, Alfred Caldwell, Dahlonega, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Frankie Caldwell, Dahlonega, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Bill Pullen, Gray, GA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Glenda and John Busold, Dahlonega, GA; sister-in-laws, Imogene Caldwell and Linda Caldwell, both of Dahlonega, GA, and Sherry Hendrix, Macon, GA; grandson, Rodney Fields, Dahlonega, GA. A number of other relatives also survive.

 

Funeral services for Mr. Caldwell are scheduled for 1 PM Monday Nov. 30, 2009 at the Yahoola Baptist Church. Rev. Lyman Caldwell and Rev. Andy Caldwell will officiate.

 

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 7 PM until 9 PM and all day on Sunday.
