Mr. Jack W. Ledford, age 89, of Dahlonega,
GA passed away Wednesday June 8, 2011 at his
home with his loving family at his bedside.
Jack was born in Hall County June 16, 1921. He lived
most of his life in Lumpkin County. He was a farmer all
of his adult life, raising chickens and cattle and selling
produce. He worked at Gainesville Cotton Mill, then at
the Burlington Pine Tree Plant in Dahlonega for
several years. He retired from Barrow Manufacturing
Co. and the Lumpkin County Farmers Co-op.
Jack served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was at
Hiroshima, Japan less than two weeks after the first
Atomic Bomb was dropped.
Jack was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in
Lumpkin County where he was a member for 70 years
and a Deacon for 69 years.
He was the son of the late Rufus M. Ledford and Molly
Anderson Ledford and was also preceded in death by
brothers, J.D. Ledford, Frank Ledford, and R.W.
Ledford; sisters, Nellie Ingram and Myrtle Sullens.
Jack is survived by his wife of 73 years, Lottie O’
Kelley Ledford, Dahlonega, GA; daughter and son-in-
law, Farrell and Reggie Gable, Dahlonega, GA; sister,
Bertha Anderson, Dahlonega, GA; grandchildren,
Bobby and Michele Ray, Dahlonega, GA, Shan and
Margie Gable, Dawsonville, GA; great-grandchildren,
Seth McCrary. Sara McCrary, Adam Ray, Reanna
Ray, and Luke Ray. A large number of nieces,
nephews, and other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 PM Saturday,
June 11, 2011, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
Rev. Dean Bryant, Rev. Phillip Robinson, Rev Casey
Robinson, Rev. Les Fuller, Rev. Roger Dunagan, and
Rev. Stephen Gerrells will officiate.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery with
military honors provided by the Veterans Alliance
Honor Guard.
Mr. Ledford will lie in state at the church from 1:30 PM
until 2 PM on Saturday.
The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral
Home in Dahlonega on Thursday June 9, 2011 from 6
PM until 9 PM and on Friday from 12 Noon until 9 PM.
Flowers will be accepted. Those desiring to do so may
make contributions to Hospice of Northeast Georgia
Medical Center, 2150 Limestone Parkway #222,
Gainesville, GA 30501 or to Mt. Gilead Baptist
Church, c/o Jim McClure, 5575 Hwy 52 East,
Dahlonega, GA 30533.
Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega is in charge of
